Restena, the registry for .lu domain names, has announced that they are going to be releasing 1 and 2 letter (and number) .lu domain names.
There will be a first registration phase known as a sunrise period, where entities holding
- trademark rights composed of 1 to 2 letters or numbers (or logos depicting 1 or 2 letters or numbers) only, and
- protected for the Luxembourg territory (Benelux trademarks, EU trademarks, and international trademarks designating Benelux or EU)
will be able to submit a specific application. The trademarks must exactly match the new domain name (excluding the suffix .lu) and must be in force and not be challenged as of 31 July 2020.
Said application has to be filed, together with the corresponding supporting documentation, between 31 August 2020 and 2 October 2020.
The application will then be evaluated and the new domain name will be awarded to the applicant that has the valid claim and the correct documentation. The domain name registration will be granted by 16 October 2020 at the latest. If there are multiple applicants with valid claims to one and the same domain name, the domain name will go to auction between the parties.
The remainder of the domains will be launched in open registration as from 2 November 2020.
Please feel free to contact our domain name department (domains@freylinger.com) if you are interested in registering a new .lu domain name!
